1. Myanmar New airports
Myanmar is expected to welcome 3 millions arrival in 2012 which is 22% increase compare to the arrival last year of 2.7 million.According to local news, Myanmar welcomed 40.000 business travelers with business Visa in 5 months.
With the current infrastructure of Yangon airport, Myanmar government target to open new international airports in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Daw.”We need a new airport because the increasing traffic at the current airport… is quite difficult to handle,” said Nwe Ni Win Kyaw, DCA assistant director.The work of construction is expected to start in June 2013 and set to become operational in 2016.
2. Visa on arrival update
Currently, there are 14 international and six domestic airlines in Myanmar and all start from Yangon. The project of new international airport in Nay Pyi Daw and Mandalay will release the work load of Yangon airport in the new future.
Aimed at facilitating foreigners to enter the country smoothly for investment and tourism purposes, the visa-on-arrival has since June 1 been issued to visitors from 31 countries including member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Australia, Britain, China, China’s Hong Kong and Taiwan, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.
Business visa is allowed for 70 days by paying 50 US dollars, while tourist visa for 28 days with 40 dollars and transit visa for 24 hours with 20 dollars.
Visa-on-arrival was once halted in September 2010 ahead of the Myanmar’s general election in November of the year.
