Myanmar’s hotel and tourism authorities will cooperate with more international organizations to promote tourism in the country, a local media reported Sunday.
The move will help create opportunities for Myanmar to participate in international travel shows, said the Popular News.
Due to adoption of a reform policy after the new government took office in March 2011, more and more world tourists have been much interested in traveling to Myanmar.
In light of the change, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has organized a committee aimed at providing better services for the convenience of tourists.
Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Tint Hsan told the ongoing parliament session that his ministry could become a major source of income for the country, saying that arrangements are being made to attract 1.4 million’s tourist arrivals in the fiscal year 2015- 16 , the end of the fifth five-year plan.
Meanwhile, the ministry is introducing star rating system to promote hotel services which include 21 hotels in Nay Pyi Taw, 22 in Bagan-Nyaung U and 31 in Taunggyi-Inle totaling 74. Hotels in Yangon, Mandalay and other key destinations will also be rated.
Myanmar became member of World Tourism Organization many years ago.
In 2011, the number of tourist arrivals at Yangon and Mandalay amounted to 400,000, up about 70,000 from about 330,000 in 2010.
