In spite of its small acreage, Vietnam is known as one of the most populous areas in the world. In cities like Hanoi or Saigon where pedestrian crossing are merely something to speed over, stop-lights are practically non-existent, one-way streets are laughed at and thousands of motorcycles speed past without stopping, crossing the streets can be an intense experience.
In Vietnam, the say “how did the tourist cross the road” becomes a real query from most visitors to this country. If one wants to cross to the other side, he/she needs to be not only brave, focused but also a risk-taker, just like in life.
- “Fortune favors the bold”
Traffic never suddenly stops to give you an opening, just like in life, miracles won’t magically appear. If you want it, go and take it, whether it’s getting across the street or applying for a new job.
- When to ask for Help
There are always people willing to help you, it would be much better if you’re supported by other people. Just like in Vietnam, maybe your guide will block the road as a crossing-guard, it can be a little bit embarrassing, but you will get across the road a heck of much faster than you have on your own.
- Concentrating on only your path
Keep your eyes away from distractions, or human instinct will cause you to stop, and of course, you cannot make it across. That’s right, just in life, focusing on the prize and your task, ignore the obstacles or competitors around you.
- Learn from people who’re more successful than you
With a very strange city, to successfully cross the street, the easiest way is following local people on what they do and walk beside them as they cross. And you will realize that you also need guides, tutors, who is more experienced than you and learn from their lessons.
- Knowing when to take a few steps back to move forward
Crossing the busy street in Vietnam requires you tactful skills, you need to have a vision to figure out which is the easiest and safer way in the end. There’s no shame in taking a different route, even if it takes you a little longer to reach your destination than everyone else.
- Nothing ventured, nothing gained
Yes, you need to take risks. It can be safer to stay on the current side-walk but you will never know what you are missing on the other side. Don’t miss out on chances in life just because of the fear of failing.
- Being persistent
There is the fact that drivers are counting on you to walk across at a consistent speed. If you suddenly stop then you will mess up the flow. So what you learn? Believe that the people around you won’t hurt you and commit fully in what you are doing.
- Thinking out of the box
When the cross-walk is too busy and there is no traffic light, crossing in the middle of a street instead of navigating around cars turning corners maybe an ideal way. You will surely make your life harder if you always follow the rules strictly.
