Karaweik was devrived from Pali karavika which is well known as mythical bird. The whole construction of this place was build by craftmen, U Ngeh Hlaing and U Myat Thin, skilled in plaster-work and wood carving in 1972. After finishing the work site of Karaweik Palace in 1975, Hotel and Tourism Ministry started promoting this beautiful attraction with their branch in 1997.
Nowadays, Karaweik are symbols for many businesses, cooperation in the country. The image of this place is used on the former 10kyats notes and you can easily view the big image of it in Yangon airport.
As a famous attraction in Yangon, Karaweik provide you a good chance to have a glimpse of Yangon in the past with royal customs, grateful traditional dances and it is functioning as a fine dining buffet area.
This is also one of the best places to enjoy a stroll in royal Kandawgyi lake.
