Tra Su Cajeput Forest is one of the most beautiful destinations in An Giang Province. The forest is home to 140 species of plants, 70 species of birds, 11 species of animals, 23 of fish, and 20 of reptiles. Located within a massive swamp, it’s called a “floating” forest and you can only explore it by boat.
The water’s surface is covered entirely with a fluid sheet of emerald duckweed. Savor the slight tingle of the gentle breeze caressing your face as you listen to the cheerful sounds of birds leaving their nests to find food. Be present in this memorable experience, especially if you are from the city.
Travel to Tra Su Cajeput Forest and you will get more and more excited when exploring nature’s novelties. Depending on seasons, Tra Su Cajeput Forest has its different beauties. While green duckweed covers water during September and travelers flock to this forest in October, it is more cheerful in February when culinary and spiritual activities take place.
Forest cuisine is another highlight of this attraction. There are multitudes of fish such as snakehead, catfish, anabas, and hemibagrus. With fresh fish, you can savor specialties such as gourami fish salad, Siamese carp hot pot with dien dien flowers, and grilled snakehead. After traveling around the forest, you can refresh yourself with some cool sweet Palmyra juice and pulp. Along the way leading to the forest, you can find numerous stalls selling fresh palmyra juice and palmyra sugar. The aromatic palmyra sugar from Chau Doc is bright yellow with a distinctive greasy and sweet flavor. It is also the main ingredient used to make scrumptious palmyra sponge cakes.
After that, you can go trekking up Sam Mountain to admire the sunset. Sam Mountain which is quite small with an elevation around 284m, is part of the Seven Mountain area. More than 200 temples and pagodas are located along the slopes and peak of the mountain.
