Oversea travelers now can visit the border island of Co To without permission, said Mr. Hoang Ba Nam, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Co To district, Quang Ninh province.
Formerly, following to the Government’s Decree No. 71/2015/ND-CP dated September 3 2015, international travelers, though having full immigration procedures as passport and visa, must apply for a permit to enter border areas like Co To island.
Last July 15, Quang Ninh Provincial Police Department declared that Co To island district is a local tourism site in accordance with Decision 1288/QD-UBND promulgated by the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province. Foreigners, who are inhabiting legally in Vietnam and have passports or valid alternative paper, now can reach the island without applying a permit. This results from the Decree 71 of the Government, which state that abroad travelers are exempt entry procedures when entering local tourism sites.
This move is expected to bring more international travelers as well as opportunities of development for the island next time.
Owning to the permit requirement, during the last years not many international tourists traveled to Co To. In the first six months of this year, the island has greeted about 15,000 visitors, most of them are domestic tourists. In 2016, it targets to welcome about 250,000 travelers.
