The emerging destination of Myanmar is attracting more and more visitors from all over the world. Along with good side of tourism, there certainly happens some bad effects. In this short article, we, the people who love Myanmar would like to recommend you some short guidance to make your holiday enjoyable and meaningful.
1. Adopt yourself with some common Burmese phrases
Mingalaba means hello, Jeh-za-heb equals to thank you are the two famous and easy words that you should learn. Do not mind to practice Burmese with your guide book or some sentences you noted before landing in this country because the people you meet will love to hear that.
The villagers surely are willing to spend their time to teach you their language.
2. Mingle with local, open your mind
Myanmar has been in the news for decades and the bad reputation had been lifted, it is opening now. Prejudgements or own visions that you got before, leave it home and enjoy your travel, you will discover the real country.
The comparison of Thailand to Myanmar is somehow unfair if you see the distinguished beauty of Bagan or Inle Lake. You will see everything by your own way, the best way to critique the local cuisine is to enjoy it, pampered yourself by the hospitality of Burmese.Conversations with local people will be very interesting, you are free to do culture exchanging, language exchange…
3. Something you should not expect
Nightlife is not popular in many cities in Myanmar, do not expect to spend your night in a bar until 3.00am, stay in Thailand if you wish to do so.
Internet is slow, there is no exception for this, if you want to check your Facebook, take time !
4. Willing to receiving the local offers
If you are offered a tour to visit the house of someone, do not refuse immediately, it may be a wrong decision. Surprises are waiting after their proposals especially in the countryside. Personally, I got many interesting touches with motorbike taxi guide in Mandalay, rickshaw guy in Yangon, boat man in Inle, horse cart rider man in Kalaw, good talk by a tea shop in Monywa and I am sure you will have similar experience if you listen to your travel sense.
5. Your visit is the highlight of local, take it easy !
You may find people taking care of you, seeing your steps but that is the way the care. Do not mix the feeling of curiosity and care. I visited many villages in Myanmar, it is very lovely. Your visit becomes their topic of the day and it make the work of tour guide successful.
6. Taking photos and send them back
Burmese people like taking photos, however, many tourists do not send them the photos as they promised. Try to keep your words if your friends or family visit the people you met with your photos, they will have double hospitality.
7. Being prepared for your trip with services
We highly recommend you to book at least flights and hotels in advance, otherwise a tour package is very ideal. This is to ensure that you do not have to spend so much time to find the accommodation.Importantly, visa is compulsory, get it ready before you come.See more our tips before you depart for Myanmar here
