Inle Lake is a major travelers destination in Burma. The lake is bordered by a few villages, where local Intha people live in wood or bamboo houses on stilts. Most of the villagers are farmers or fishermen. Travelers can experience the most amazing views at Inle Lake, eat the most delicious food with fresh fish from the lake and meet local fishermen who are known for practicing a distinctive rowing style.
Inle Lake is located in the Taunggyi district of Shan State. The best time to visit is during September and October. The Hpaung Daw U festival is followed by the Thadingyut festival of lights. Like almost every festival in Burma, the people turn out in their best clothes and in great numbers.
